PINEWOOD DERBY 2006

NOTE: Date changed to MARCH 16, 2006!!!

The Pinewood Derby is coming up soon!  And it will be extra special this year as Pack 33 rolls out an all-new steel track (life in the "fast lanes"), computerized timing and results (no more "too close to call"s!), race management software (maybe even up on a big screen!) and specialized braking area (instead of those old pillows)!

Race day is March 16, 2006.  There will be a special photo opportunity, so everyone (or at least every den) should bring a camera.  Here is the race day schedule (you must be there and weighed in before the start for your rank, and Bears and Webelos should arrive by 7:00pm for the pack meeting):

  Weigh-In Start
Tigers 6:15pm 6:30pm
Wolves 6:30pm 6:45pm
FULL PACK MEETING AT 7:00PM
Bears 7:00pm 7:15pm
Webelos 7:15pm 7:30pm
FINALS   7:45pm

Car kits and weights were given out at the Blue & Gold dinner; if you didn't get yours, check with your Den Leader (Den Leaders - if you don't have extras for your members, check with John or send them to him).

Remember - the main point of this event is designing and building the car, learning craftsmanship and having fun - it is NOT about winning!  The Cub Scout should do as much of the work as he can, and the design should be appropriate to his age and skill level.  Right-click here (73k PDF) for an interesting article from the Wall Street Journal on over-enthusiastic dads.
