The Westchester-Putnam Council of Boy Scouts is once again mobilizing its 10,000 youth members to address hunger in Westchester & Putnam Counties. Scouts will be helping kids and families through the annual "Scouting For Food Canned Food Drive - Good Turn Project."
hanks to the Public Sector Group of Hudson United Bank and Mavis Discount Tires, over 81,000 food donation collection bags will be distributed by area Scouts in communities and neighborhoods in Westchester & Putnam Counties. Scouts will collect canned food items and turn them over on October 2 to the Westchester County Food Patch, which supports 200 agencies that in turn provide food for 200,000 in Westchester County, and will insure that the donated food items will be given to needy families. Last year's effort yielded over 20+ tons of donated canned food! Pack 33 collected over 200 bags and this year we hope to exceed that amount.
For Pack 33, bags will be distributed at the September 23 Pack meeting ; bags can also be picked up at John Stackpole's house at 39 Coolidge - there is a blue bin in his front yard that has bags. Scouts should collect canned food during the week of September 26-October 1, and then drop off their bags on Saturday, October 2 at Mavis Discount Tire Center, 2137 Boston Post Rd, from 8am - 5pm (if these hours are not convenient, you can drop them off on Friday instead; they are closed Sunday).
Scouts should wear their uniforms if possible when out collecting and dropping off, and should be accompanied by an adult as necessary. In addition to doing a good turn and helping people in need, participating scouts will receive an award patch, so let your den leader know if you participated and how many bags you dropped off.
